Nest Feathers and Twine - Formally Artist's Block Studio

The things that make a house a home and the stuff that holds is all together.

Years ago I started this blog with a mindset and goals that I have found have changed direction over time. I am excited to say that this blog has a new name.....Nest Feathers and Twine. I hope you come by and visit often. Feel free to get comfortable and kick off your shoes and join me on this journey of metamorphosis.

Cleanin' and Rearrangin'

I have spent the last several days rearranging the basement again! My studio seems to shrink everytime I bring home a bag with new stuff in it! Hmmmmm....wonder why?! My poor birds are all upset because they have all been moved, but it is good for them to have new scenery, but tough on them for the first day or two since half of them were abused by the prior owners and change can be upsetting for them. One is talking more, one less, one lets out a scream or two now and then to let me know his opinion on all of this, and one who is a sweet little girl who lived her first 6 years living with an abusive man will have to moved again since she is not dealing with her new location well at all. We have decided to get rid of 2 lizards whose tanks are taking up too much room, and they don't get as much attention as I would like them to have, and guess who is the one who cleans up the poo.........I told the kids the only new pets allowed in this house are ones that do not poo............with my luck they will find one!
I am so excited to have more room, and I have moved my 'stations' around a bit and made everything a bit more organized. I only wish the call for artists email I got from HGTV would have come next month, I would have felt ready for it.
Well, I am off to finish up the last little bit of cleaning up and maybe with a little luck I will get to create a piece of art before bed today!

SMMR Spirit Word 4x4 Exchange

This is my offering for the SMMR 4x4 chunky! I was a little sad only 6 people signed up to participate, but by the time I finished them up I was kinda relieved. I would have gone nuts stitching the word M U S E on the screen 20 or 30 times! I loved the end result, and I finally used the Sizzix tab thingy I just had to have awhile back! Posted by Picasa

Pull out for the SMMR 4x4

This is my second 4x4 and both have had pull outs. I love adding words, or additional words but don't want to clutter up the art. I hand painted my paper, and sprayed on Pearl-ex. I love being able to paint my own paper! I love making just the color/colors I want. I love being in control I guess! Something I am finding out about myself. So much of my life I have surrendered to everyone and given up control to avoid conflict. What great therapy art is ! I can't say it is cheaper though! I have used the image of both these little girls recently in other art and I looked through other photos looking to use different images, but these two little girls just kept screaming use us! use us! So I gave in! They are so cute! The words I wrote on the pull out are : My MUSE gently plants the seeds of INSPIRATION in my HEART as she softly whispers the words of ART in my ear. Posted by Picasa

July 10, 1990

  • 11Family members we loved still walked the Earth with us
  • My dad was the same age my DH is now
  • My not - so - little - anymore girl made her appearance into this world 3 weeks early, and thank goodness weighing in at only 9lbs 10oz, 3 - 6 pounds less than her estimated full term birth weight!

How did my little girl get to be so grown up so quickly, especially since I do not feel like I have aged ? Time has gone by too fast.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BABY GIRL !!!!!!!!!!!!
